This projection uses a rectangle map with straight coordinate lines (both vertical and horizontal), and when you wrap it around a globe, it produces a cylinder or tube shape when the edges of the paper touch each other. 3 - A flat/plane-based projection, producing a circular map. They all project the world in slightly different ways, providing different levels of distortion. There are 3 different types of map projections. When the paper is further away from the globe, this distortion will occur. When the paper touches the globe, there will be an accurate projection. This means either the paper or the globe somehow needs to change to accommodate each other (in this case, the paper). If this paper is placed over a globe, it won't fit properly, as they are both different shapes. To visualise this projection, think about placing a piece of paper over a globe this is how a map can be constructed. This is just the X and Y axis most familiar in mathematic studies. Generally speaking, you will be satisfied with both HID and LED, but the devil is in the details, as always. So, having a built-in CANbus is a nice double layer system that BLESK and DAMA HID conversion kit have that would eliminate (Pardon the pun) doing work, twice. As you have seen, the competition between HID and LED headlights is fierce, with both bringing something else to the table. No vehicle manufacturers publish aftermarket product guidelines for their vehicles. Finally, having a built-in CANbus is an extra layer of assurance that after all the work that went into installing the HID conversion kit, you are not faced with an error message on your dashboard. It is a similar concept to the HID bulbs, and the additional reason why we do not recommend higher wattage ballast is that the bulb would get so hot that the headlight housing may melt before the bulb. For example, putting higher wattage to the halogen bulb may make the light brighter, but that would eventually burn out the filament a lot faster. ![]() The light would seem brighter, but there is a certain limitation to the xenon gas. Pumping higher wattage does not always equal brighter light output. Why 35W? Why not 55W or 75W or even 100 ballast? First of all, there is a good reason why car manufacturers stay at 35W. Also, the HID ballast controller for both brands has a built-in CANbus. Both DAMA and BLESK are designed according to the factory-recommended wattage setting of 35W. Blesk is made in our factory in South Korea and has the most reliable HID ballast with a 1-year factory defect replacement warranty. The most popular HID conversion kit is BLESK HID conversion kit. DAMA HID Xenon conversion kits have a compact designed HID ballast controller that easily fits into even tight spaces. HIDCONCEPT.COM offers two brands of HID Xenon conversion kits. (Plus necessary wire harnesses) These HID ballasts are specifically designed for the rebased HID bulbs. Having said that, all of our HID conversion kits include both the rebased HID bulbs and the ballast that is made for the bulbs. Also, some ballasts are made for D2 HID bulbs and some are for the D4 HID bulbs. Besides the wattage issue, there are 12V and 24V HID ballasts. At HIDCONCEPT.COM, we don't recommend that route. In summary, the HID ballast controller optimizes the light output and regulates the life span of the rebased HID ballast.Ĭan you use any kind of HID ballast controller? Some people use the factory OEM or copied version ballasts for retrofitting the HID bulbs. The other main function of the ballast controller is that the ballast converts DC to AC so that you can use the DC power from your vehicle to light the HID bulb efficiently. Now, here is where the HID ballast controller becomes important. Another side effect is that the bulbs may draw insufficient power and the light output would be uneven or dim. Doing so would only create uncontrolled light output which would make the bulb burn out fast. However, this would be quite dangerous and not a recommended method. That being said, hypothetically, you can (With some moderate modifications) light up the HID bulb without the ballast controller. The ballast not only helps to provide the voltage to start the bulb but also helps in maintaining and regulating the flow of the electrical current to the bulb. ![]() ![]() In this blog, we will give you a brief explanation of the HID Xenon ballast controller.Ī ballast is an essential part of HID lighting technology. Even the factory-installed HID headlights always have HID ballast controller per side. Installing the halogen bulbs are as simple as unplugging the old halogen bulb and installing the new one without any additional steps. The question we receive is why is HID ballast controller necessary? For the driver with the halogen headlights, ballast is an odd concept. The HID Xenon bulbs are rebased to fit the halogen bulb sockets, and they are installed to the HID ballast controller. Such drivers usually turn to retrofit the low beam with HID Xenon conversion kits. Anyone that has the factory-installed halogen headlights wish that the low beam would be a lot brighter. ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi, my name is Mike Kennedy, and I carve handrails for a living. Many builders and designers think that catalog stairs are all that’s available. The other reason machine-made faux stairs continue showing up in custom homes is that many builders, homeowners and architects don’t know that it is still possible to get high-quality, hand-made custom stairs with furniture-grade handrails. They may believe that carving is a lost art or a quaint hobby for retirees. They don’t know that professional woodcarvers are still around. They think those kind of skills died out with the dinosaurs-it’s too difficult, too expensive. Often, a builder or homeowner is trying to cut costs, which is understandable but wrongheaded. Do you really think that the biggest piece of furniture-the centerpiece of a multi-million dollar home-is the place to cut corners? Do you think anyone a hundred years from now will be impressed with how much money the builder saved? How about five years from now? Will anyone say “Wow! Look at that stair! I’ll bet they really saved some money there!” Would you want that? There are two reasons for this. The first is economic. I have made many beautiful handrails in modern styles using tangent handrail geometry. Styles may change over time, but geometry doesn’t.Ĭatalog stairs have their place dressing up lower value homes or McMansions, but to my disappointment, they are rapidly becoming the standard in high-value custom homes, too. This is not to say that the only good styles are old styles. Sure, they are an approximation of those old cherished forms, but they are a poor approximation at best (sort of like big-box furniture). On the other hand, if you walk into a modern custom home, there is a good chance you will find a catalog stair complete with machine-made parts designed not from natural forms or classical elements, but for the ease of the machining. ![]() If that’s the case, I bet a century or two after it was made, people are still impressed with the look and feel of your railing, and the amount of skill it took to make it. The handrail was carved using time-honored tangent geometry, sharp chisels, a trained eye, and real human sweat. It was built by hand out of carefully chosen materials. Is it graceful? Is it beautiful? Was it built by the hand of an old-time craftsman? Was it built for the house, or chosen from some catalog of cheap foreign-made parts?Ĭhances are, if you have an old Colonial or a Victorian home, the stair was designed according to traditional geometry based on natural rules for elegance and form. Elegant. It is often the biggest piece of furniture in a home and one of the most valuable ornamental assets. When you walk into a custom home, an old Victorian or an old Colonial, one of the first and most impressive sights is the stair.
